Legend says that, Sri Rama installed Lord siva, to get rid of the sin of killing a demon Tataki, who is a woman.
Inscriptions on the temples walls says that, Lord Siva appeared in the dreams of the King of this region and instructed him to build the temple for this Idol. This region was ruled by Pemmasani Ramalinga Naidu, Son of Thimmanaidu who was a chief commander at Sri Krsihna Devarayulu court.
The musical columns at this temple is another interesting thing at the main corridor. There are sub temples for Veerabhadra swamy, Chandi, Sri Rama, Parvathi Devi.
