The Science Center is an interesting place to visit. A visit to this museum makes one aware of the complete history and geography of Andaman and Nicobar islands. The place illustrates how initially these islands were a part of the South Asian mainland and had mountain range stretching from Arakan Yomas in Burma through Sumatra, Java and Indonesia.
The Science Center is an interesting place to visit. A visit to this museum makes one aware of the complete history and geography of Andaman and Nicobar islands. The place illustrates how initially these islands were a part of the South Asian mainland and had mountain range stretching from Arakan Yomas in Burma through Sumatra, Java and Indonesia. Then with passage of time and due to geological activity the land submerged and created islands of mountain tops. It is sheer pleasure to look and understand the existence of these islands.
Other than this the Science Center explains the science of oceans and even allows the curios visitors to create waves and enjoy the feel of it. There is also a specimen of the youngest rock in India. One can also enjoy the flora and fauna of the islands here.
There are several kiosks which allow the visitors to explore the world of multimedia in these areas. There is a hall where one can have fun with mirrors, or enjoy the rolling balls which perform acrobatics or even paint pictures with free flowing liquid.
In the Taramandal, which is the portable planetarium of this center one can learn about stars and constellations. Thus there are a number of options from which one can choose and enjoy. So a visit to this place is definitely worth giving a try.
The Science Center is located on the Corbyn’s Road in Port Blair and is open on all days except Wednesdays for general public. The entry fee for people is a minimal Rs. 5 per person and for children below 14 years it is Rs 2. Several shows are shown here from time to time, like the Planetarium Show, Fun-tastic Show, Sky Observation Show and the Unexpected Science Show.
The entry fee for such shows is Rs 2 per head per show. People can even take their cameras inside the Science Center by paying a nominal fee of Rs 10. The Science Center remains open from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
